Float plans

What the holder gets
The shared float plan highlights the information a trusted person ashore needs if your boat is overdue: instructions, route and timing, vessel and crew, contacts, communications, and safety details.
How to share it
Best practice is to share float plans with trusted people ashore, such as a friend, relative, marina, or yacht club contact. Emergency services such as the USCG do not accept float plans directly; the person holding your plan should contact the Coast Guard or another rescue authority if you are overdue.
A float plan is part of preparation.
Keep your shore contact updated if your plans change, and verify all trip decisions with current charts, weather, tides, currents, notices, and local knowledge.
